dajiang osmo gimbal review report

In February, she came into our lives, making our exercise routines more colorful. She became our workout companion. Who is she? She is Osmo Mobile, the star of this article, not Qin and Lin, but Osmo Mobile, the DJI handheld gimbal.

As a marathon couple, we have been filming marathon videos since early 2016, capturing our exciting and romantic moments. However, the footage shot with our phones was very unstable (the first 10 seconds of the review video show our old running videos, which are now quite unbearable to watch, haha, a bit of self-deprecation there). In February this year, we applied for the Codoon OSMO MOBILE review qualification. People who love sports are always lucky, and sporty marathon couples are even luckier. We got the chance to review Osmo Mobile. Thank you, Codoon, and thank you, Codoon editor Meimei! Let's roll up our sleeves and get to work. Without further ado, let's get to the point:

Currently, mobile phone shooting capabilities are becoming increasingly powerful. Generally, phones can fully meet the needs of daily life recording, making the content easier to use and share. However, handheld cameras, especially during dynamic shooting, tend to shake a lot. Therefore, photography accessories for phones have become highly sought after, and Osmo Mobile is one of them. DJI drones are well-known, and Qin and Lin are curious to review Osmo Mobile.

The design and craftsmanship of Osmo Mobile are exquisite. The handle has five buttons: power, joystick, photo button, video button, and mode switch button, all easily accessible with the thumb and index finger. The front of the handle has a trigger button similar to a game controller. Although it has only one button, it supports three operations: single-click and hold to lock the shooting direction, double-click to reset the gimbal, and triple-click to switch between front and rear cameras. Since most settings and operations of Osmo Mobile are done on the phone, Qin and Lin could operate the handle without reading the manual. The handle is very user-friendly.

There is a toothed screw port on the side of the handle for connecting a dedicated extension rod. Above the trigger button is a 3.5mm port, which is not for headphones or a mic but for charging.

The standard package includes two batteries for replacement when the power is low. The quick-release battery compartment is located at the bottom of the handle, making it easy to open and replace the batteries.

The Osmo Mobile phone holder features a very unique design and installation method, compatible with phones 58.6mm-84.8mm wide. Users only need to turn the knob on the back of the holder to adjust the size, making it easy to install regular phones.

Next to the phone holder is an embedded black component, which Qin and Lin confirmed to be an infrared distance sensor that detects whether the phone is correctly installed. Switching between vertical and hanging modes requires minimal setup, making it very convenient.

On Osmo Mobile, the most prominent function of DJI GO is setting camera parameters and controlling the gimbal movement via Bluetooth. Besides these smart controls, DJI GO's video and photo shooting differ from the phone's built-in camera app. With Osmo Mobile, the camera's stabilization feature becomes less important, and DJI GO captures videos with a wider field of view, making framing easier.

Testing the joystick's video shooting effect, the footage is very stable (the image is a video screenshot).

Osmo Mobile has a powerful feature—intelligent tracking. We used Qin and Lin's little one for tracking. It can lock onto a face or a part of the body, and the phone will focus on the little one, moving with them. The footage is also very stable (the image is a video screenshot).

Tracking Qin's running back, the footage shows no shaking at all (the image is a video screenshot).

In short, DJI Osmo Mobile is perfect for shooting and sports enthusiasts. There's no need to buy professional camera equipment; Osmo Mobile and a phone can produce high-quality videos. Qin and Lin love it and will use it to capture their little one and their exciting moments. Thanks again to Codoon for giving us the chance to get up close and personal with DJI Osmo Mobile!
