9a is an attitude

Codoon Review Golden Opening: Thanks to 'Codoon,' 'Kailas,' and the most adorable person—'Sister Guan.' Due to the constant travel and hustle in June, I have been on the move and only managed to submit this review today. I feel quite ashamed. However, it was a coincidence that I went climbing in the Dayu Rock Area in Xi'an, which provided the perfect environment for testing these 9A climbing pants. What a stroke of luck!

First, about the 9A.

I've already reviewed two products from Kailas, so I won't go into detail about the 'Little Sun' of the outdoor world—the Kailas brand. The 9A name comes from the grading system for climbing difficulty, so it's no surprise that these pants are designed for climbing. But 9A is more than just a name; it's an attitude—a relentless, never-give-up attitude.

(9A signifies 'God-level')

This relentless attitude can be summed up in six words: 'No madness, no survival.'

About the pants.

The 9A pants are positioned as 'climbing training' pants, so their design and functionality are all about climbing. Simply put, they are stylish and practical climbing pants. (Wherever there's a climbing spot, you'll find the shadow of 9A)

(Forgive my lifelong indulgence in sticking little ads everywhere)

(Collect all the rainbow colors to summon the dragon)

Before reviewing this latest version of the 9A, I had already owned two older versions. The green pair accompanied me to the mining rock areas in Germany, the sandstone towers in the Czech Republic, the climbing paradise ARCO in Italy, and even Longyan in Sichuan. I always bring these pants when climbing because they are comfortable, convenient, and professional. (Gopro, should you consider signing me? Daydreaming...)

(The 9A is incredibly stretchy)

First, the fabric of the 9A climbing pants is a highly durable, high-stretch material. Combined with the cut and some small design details, these pants provide no sense of restriction during climbing, whether you're doing high foot placements or splits. This allows us to focus entirely on the next hand/foot hold. Although the fabric is not cotton, it feels very similar to cotton, making it breathable and comfortable for everyday wear. The rolled-up cuffs can be adjusted between full-length and 7/8 length, making these pants a staple in my daily wardrobe.

(Roll up the cuffs for climbing, roll them down for grocery shopping)

The most criticized feature of the old 9A was the Velcro and button waist design. After receiving feedback, Kailas added a belt buckle to the new 9A and removed a hanging loop from the back of the waistband. They also modified the brush holder on the side seam. These are all improvements, but why did they remove the Buddha eye embroidery on the waistband (replacing it with locks and other patterns)? As a straightforward guy, I think the original Buddha eye was more stylish. However, at the Nanjing Outdoor Exhibition, I saw that the new 9A offers several types of embroidery on the waistband, giving consumers more personalized options.

(My two favorite elements)

Durability

In terms of durability, if the full score is 100, I would give the 9A pants 85. After more than a year of frequent use, the 9A has not shown any direct wear and tear. However, after repeated washing, the 9A has become 'looser,' meaning my once slim-fit 9A has turned into a more relaxed fit. Despite this, they remain comfortable for climbing. Although it's a bit regrettable that the 9A, like a young girl, will age over time, it ages gracefully, and I still love them.

Purchase Advice

Whether you're a seasoned climber or a newbie, if you climb or want to try climbing, these 9A pants are made for you. Don't hesitate to buy them. If you are more into hiking, running, or other light activities, you might find other options more suitable for your needs. But in this era of aesthetics, whether the 9A's looks move you or not, I don't know, but my heart is continuously moved.

Finally, a little surprise for those who read until the end: an unblurred real-life model.
