kailas flyknit lightweight shell jacket: defy the elements and play unhindered

I remember the Nanjing Laoshan Trail Run earlier this year. It suddenly started pouring rain that day, and many of my friends got soaked. Although I didn't get wet, wearing a raincoat was stifling. It was raining heavily outside and lightly inside. The completion rate for the 100-kilometer race was only about 5%. At that time, I thought it would be great to have a lightweight jacket that was both waterproof and breathable. Coincidentally, Codoon launched a review event for the Kailas Flyknit Lightweight Hiking Jacket. The moment I saw the pictures and performance description, I was thrilled. Isn't this the jacket I've been dreaming of?

Thanks to Codoon for providing this review opportunity. Without further ado, I quickly opened it upon receiving it.

Unboxing

The packaging of the Kailas Flyknit Lightweight Hiking Jacket is quite simple. The outer packaging is a transparent plastic bag, allowing you to see the long-desired treasure at a glance—a men's size M silver-gray jacket.

After removing the packaging and tags, it weighs 311g, making it a lightweight jacket for hiking.

Does it really have the advertised storm-proof effect? I couldn't wait to test it. I splashed some water on the fabric, and the water droplets rolled and gathered into larger droplets without penetrating the fabric, showing a clear lotus leaf effect.

Fit and appearance

I am 170cm tall and weigh 130kg. The size M fits just right.

The hood looks a bit large, the cuffs are a bit loose, and the hem is also relatively loose. What to do? Kailas has a solution:

The cuffs have Velcro designs that can be adjusted as needed. You can tighten the cuffs in windy or cold conditions and loosen them in hot weather to increase ventilation.

By pulling the drawstrings on both sides of the neck, you can quickly tighten the hood, making it fit closely to your head and reducing the intrusion of wind, rain, and snow.

The drawstring adjustment at the back of the hood further ensures a snug fit between the hood and your head.

The two drawstrings at the front hem can tighten the hem to prevent wind, rain, and snow from entering from below.

Once everything is adjusted, you're ready to face the wind and rain.

Other details

The left chest and right arm of the jacket have the KAILAS logo, the brand mark of Kailas. The zippers on the jacket, pocket zippers, and underarm ventilation zippers are all high-quality YKK zippers with waterproof treatment.

There is a zipper under each armpit, which can be opened for direct ventilation.

The wind flap design at the chest prevents the jacket from being blown open by strong winds.

There is a nearly 30cm deep pocket on each side of the inner lining, which can easily hold any supplies and auxiliary equipment. The corners of the pockets are sealed with tape for added reliability.

The pockets are labeled with the jacket's various features: waterproof, breathable, and durable. After subsequent testing, I found that this jacket can easily withstand heavy rain. Kailas truly lives up to its reputation as a leader in outdoor sports, with very high standards for itself.

Field Test

I eagerly awaited the arrival of moderate to heavy rain. Normally, I would stay home and avoid going out in such weather. But now, with my new gear, I wanted to test it in real conditions. I called up some friends and went out for a walk.

Cycling Performance:

Temperature 25°C, wind force level 3, wearing a short-sleeve T-shirt and the jacket, cycling 20 kilometers back and forth at an average speed of 20km/h. It felt comfortable, with good windproof performance, and no wind resistance while cycling.

Hiking Performance:

On the mountain trails

While walking, it started raining heavily. I quickly put on the hood and zipped up the rainproof zipper, letting the raindrops dance on the jacket.

Standing on the city wall, I spread my arms and shouted: Let the storm come even harder!

Running Performance:

Temperature 27°C, high humidity, wearing a short-sleeve T-shirt and the jacket, three-quarter length sports pants, and running shoes. Running in the mountains, the first two kilometers were easy aerobic runs and felt comfortable.

In the third kilometer, running uphill with mixed aerobic and anaerobic exercise, I opened the underarm ventilation zippers. After the run, my arms were slightly sweaty, but there was no sticky feeling between my arms and the jacket, thanks to the 3D bionic breathable layer of Kailas. Here's a video to give you a feel for it.
