running soulmate girl codoon smart heart rate earphones

First of all, I would like to thank the Codoon platform for the valuable opportunity to review their product. From what I understand, Codoon initially focused on hardware, then shifted to social networking. After gaining popularity with their sports social platform, they returned to smart hardware peripherals, starting with smart running shoes and sports bras, then moving on to body fat scales and smart heart rate earphones. Their products have undergone iterative upgrades, and their slogan has evolved from 'For exercise, use Codoon' to 'Smart exercise, all in Codoon,' demonstrating their commitment to smart peripherals.

The main subject of this review is the second generation of Codoon's heart rate earphones—the Codoon Smart Heart Rate Earphones Quiet. 'Quiet' means silent, so at least from the name, the second generation should have better noise isolation than the first. How it performs in practice will be revealed through testing!

1. Unboxing:

The box packaging and color scheme are almost identical to the first generation. The Tencent Dingdang logo on the bottom left of the front has been replaced by a Bluetooth symbol, and three main features are listed: smart heart rate monitoring, smart exercise guidance, and in-ear noise isolation. The back lists the earphone's specifications in small print.

Runners are most concerned about the following points:

Playback time: 5 hours

Standby time: 70 hours

Charging time: 2 hours

Communication distance: 10 meters

Talk time: 4 hours

Product weight: 15g

Removing the disposable plastic seal reveals the earphones and accessories. Compared to the first generation, the storage box has been replaced by a storage bag, making it more compact and portable, but care must be taken to avoid pressure damage.

In addition to the storage bag and USB cable, there are two pairs of silicone ear tips and two pairs of shark fin ear tips.

The earphone cable is soft, and the ear hooks are quite flexible and not easily deformed. The highlight is the ear tips, with the right ear tip integrating a heart rate sensor. Unlike my previous heart rate earphones, this one does not light up when working, and the contact point with the skin is different. Previous models had sensors in the tragus or outer ear canal, but this one fits perfectly in the anti-tragus area. Subsequent wear tests showed a good fit with no shaking or displacement. The outer side of the ear tips features an orange-red brushed metal finish with the Codoon logo, adding a vibrant touch.

The inline control differs from the common three-button design, adding an AI button. In music mode, track skipping and pausing functions are integrated into the middle button: single press to pause/start, double press for the next track, and triple press for the previous track. The orange AI button can double-click to wake up the Codoon app in the background, directly entering exercise mode, with various voice interactions achieved through single presses.

2. Wearing Experience:

The first time wearing them requires a learning curve, but once adapted, they are easy and comfortable to wear, fitting well. The exposed parts of the earphones are not obtrusive, blending seamlessly with the user. However, the cable is slightly long and lacks an adjustment buckle, making it look untidy from the back. Fortunately, after several uses, I found that the earphone cable does not tangle.

3. Exercise Testing

1. Connecting the earphones to the Codoon app

Download the latest version of the Codoon app, go to the main interface → My → Equipment → top right ➕ → Connect Smart Equipment → Smart Sports Earphones → Codoon Smart Heart Rate Earphones Quiet, turn on the earphones, open Bluetooth on your phone → start pairing → pairing successful.

Once paired, the right earphone displays real-time heart rate, with voice guidance settings, Tencent Dingdang assistant usage, and related training courses, including heart and lung improvement, optimal fat-burning heart rate running, and MAF180 slow running training. You can compare your heart rate to improve your exercise capacity, but accurate heart rate data is essential for all data analysis.

2. Resting Heart Rate Data

Compared to a watch, the resting heart rate measurements showed minimal discrepancies.

3. Exercise Heart Rate Data:

Running 10 kilometers, with a temperature of around 25 degrees, the weather was cool. The Codoon data compared to the watch data is as follows:

In the first three kilometers, the heart rate data monitored by the earphones was almost identical to the watch, with a real-time heart rate difference of ±1, which was quite reliable and pleasing. However, at four kilometers, the heart rate suddenly spiked to 180, while the watch remained around 160. Pausing and restarting the run restored normal readings, likely due to water entering the ear during summer running, causing occasional anomalies.

In terms of wearing comfort, I experienced no discomfort after an hour, with no loosening or falling sensation, and no swelling in the ear canal. This aspect is satisfactory and praiseworthy.

Another point not to be overlooked is that since it is named a smart heart rate earphone, its intelligence cannot be ignored. It has an integrated Tencent Dingdang smart assistant, allowing you to start your desired exercise project, check current exercise data, listen to music, access health knowledge, weather, news, radio, control the earphones, and even make phone calls. Pressing the orange button on the inline control will prompt a pleasant female voice to respond immediately, provided the phone's network is on. During exercise, it will remind you in real-time to control your heart rate and occasionally offer motivational quotes. The voice is soft and not overly verbose, making it like a personal running companion.

4. Sound Quality

The first-generation earphones were co-developed with 1MORE, but the second generation, despite lacking the 1MORE logo, features noise reduction design and dual dynamic driver units.

Using NetEase Cloud Music on my phone and KuGou Viper Sound Effects on my computer, I listened to several tracks and found that the sound quality of Quiet was not as bad as some users claimed. Having used multiple wired and wireless earphones, and recently bone conduction ones, I found the sound quality quite good. If the sound seems mixed, try changing the player, equalizer settings, or using lossless audio sources. The dual dynamic drivers offer better resolution, allowing more details to be heard compared to ordinary earphones. The vocals are not harsh, and while the bass may not match Sony's, it is better than many earphones in the same price range. The noise reduction is impressive, making it enjoyable for regular listening, but it's advisable to keep the volume low while running for safety.

5. Charging and Battery Life

With a full charge, I ran 10 kilometers, nearly an hour, with music playing and connected to Codoon throughout. The battery indicator on my phone still showed full at the end, as verified by the track map. The official claim is a full charge in two hours, with five hours of playback. Due to time constraints, whether it can last for a marathon of around four hours remains to be tested in the long run.

6. Summary of Pros and Cons and Suggestions for Improvement

After nearly a week of testing, I have gained a thorough understanding of the Codoon Smart Bluetooth Heart Rate Earphones Quiet. Here is the summary:

① Exquisite workmanship, lightweight, comfortable to wear, unobtrusive ear tips, can be worn while lying down, and the cable is not prone to tangling.

② Intelligent exercise reminders, pleasant virtual AI assistant voice.

③ Satisfactory sound quality performance.

Suggestions for Improvement and Purchase Advice:

Compared to the first-generation heart rate earphones, the second generation has seen improvements and optimizations in both software and hardware. The heart rate monitoring is among the most accurate in heart rate earphones (compared to my previous heart rate earphones priced at over 500 and 1000). However, stability needs further optimization. In reality, even watches cannot guarantee constant heart rate accuracy, so there's no need to be overly critical. Overall, I am satisfied with these earphones. The Codoon store price is ¥299.00. Worth buying!
