Unboxing

The KAILAS Fuga PRO uses a natural-colored corrugated cardboard box and thoughtfully includes a black drawstring waterproof shoe bag.

Putting the shoes in the bag makes them very convenient to carry.

The color scheme of the Fuga PRO is not as low-key as the shoe box; instead, it is very flamboyant with bright colors. The official name for this color is Sunset Orange, with blue gradient lines extending from the side of the shoe to the back, naturally connecting the main Sunset Orange color of the upper with the blue interior. This color scheme is sure to stand out while running, and I personally love it.

The Fuga PRO is a mountain running shoe specially designed for Chinese people, adopting an Asian foot shape design. It is comfortable and fits well, shortening the break-in period for new shoes and greatly alleviating the discomfort caused by foot swelling during long-distance running.

The upper combines a wear-resistant lightweight TPU hot-pressed film with a breathable mesh. The material is both wear-resistant and soft, reducing the overall weight of the shoe. The men's size 42 weighs 268g, which is lighter than some cushioned road running shoes. Its lightweight feature is particularly prominent among similar mountain running shoes.

The Fuga PRO also thoughtfully includes a four-point fixed anti-sand cover device.

The 5mm thick KORT recessed breathable sweat-wicking insole is ergonomically designed to fit the arch of the foot. Even with my flat feet, it is very comfortable to wear, which is truly touching.

The Fuga PRO continues the classic AWS full-foot adjustment system that I have always praised. Unlike other brands' quick lacing systems, it deviates 15 degrees from the center of the foot and extends the opening to the toe with an elastic mesh at the front to effectively prevent sand and stones from entering. It allows for maximum adjustment and features a high-performance anti-forward lock. The entire tongue is fixed with elastic mesh, forming a sock-like structure in the front compartment of the shoe, preventing the tongue from shifting sideways and providing a certain degree of wrapping. Super awesome!

The Fuga PRO uses the ultra-elastic ECCEVAI midsole from the Italian phylon formula, which extends upward for considerable stability. The midsole is thicker than the previous generation, further enhancing overall cushioning and providing excellent elastic feedback.

The addition of the Vibram rubber outsole has now become the standard for flagship series trail running shoes of major brands. KAILAS has also generously used the Vibram Lite base lightweight professional trail running outsole. Its MEGAGRIP wetland anti-slip formula can easily handle complex and slippery mountain roads. The outsole's Tire Tech tire-like arc design, with rugged lugs arranged in different directions, visually gives me a sense of solid safety.

Performance Test

The size of the KAILAS Fuga PRO trail running shoes is very standard. I usually wear size 42 for trail running shoes, and the fit is just right, comfortable and fitting. The AWS full-foot adjustment system can be adjusted freely according to different foot shapes and personal needs. The seamless 3D stitching design inside and outside the shoe, along with the unique tongue structure and adequately padded collar, provides excellent foot wrapping and support. Most trail surfaces put the shoe in an uneven force state, making outstanding foot feel particularly important. The Tire Tech tire-like arc design of the outsole makes forward rolling smooth during running, especially on flat surfaces where I can genuinely feel the light and agile feedback.

During the test route, which included gravel and forest sections, the cushioning effect was excellent. Every step felt very light, making running increasingly effortless, and I couldn't stop. This is thanks to the ECCEVAI midsole from the Italian phylon formula, which is thicker than the previous generation and extends upward to wrap around the foot, providing some arch support. The thick KORT insole also adds a lot to the cushioning.

Due to the slippery mountain roads after the rain, with uneven surfaces and overgrown weeds, the Vibram MEGAGRIP outsole on the Fuga PRO ensured safety and provided quality assurance. The MEGAGRIP outsole's full protection allowed me to run steadily with every step. The special structure and arrangement of the outsole's tread greatly enhanced anti-slip grip, and the outsole did not accumulate too much sand and dirt, which is fantastic.

After more than ten days of actual running tests, including both trail and road running mixed surfaces, I found that the Fuga PRO is not only suitable for mountain running but also for occasional road running without any issues. The common wear areas of the running shoes showed no significant changes. The extensive use of high-durability ultra-light TPU film also provides excellent wear resistance.

Summary

The KAILAS Fuga PRO performs satisfactorily on various trail running surfaces, with outstanding anti-slip performance and easy control. It effectively provides friction while making long-distance mountain running and hiking more manageable, with high sand resistance. The midsole's cushioning and rebound allow me to handle rugged mountain roads and slippery forests with ease.

For a mountain runner, having a pair of KAILAS Fuga PRO low-top mountain running shoes is definitely like adding wings to a tiger. The lighter design and excellent track performance have once again refreshed my impression of trail running shoes. They are like an SUV under my feet, helping me easily handle various surfaces and effortlessly leave competitors behind in competitive trail running. They are a pair of high-quality, all-around performance trail running shoes.
