kailas jacket companion fear no rain snow wind frost

Loves traveling, running, and hiking. Living in the Northeast, maintaining these three hobbies in winter requires good thermal gear. Whether it's a morning run, outdoor hiking, or traveling, rain, snow, wind, and frost can come at any time. A high-performance, windproof, waterproof, and warm jacket is a 'must-have'!

At the end of each year, I visit my mother-in-law who winters in Hainan and take the opportunity to travel somewhere. This year, I chose the long-desired destinations of Siguniang Mountain and Hailuogou. Although I don't have the ability to climb the 6250-meter-high Siguniang Mountain and don't need professional mountaineering equipment, I still need to prepare essential cold-resistant and windproof gear for visiting the 3,000-4,000-meter-high Siguniang Mountain scenic area in winter. Coincidentally, Codoon Trendy Products Store launched a review of the Kailas jacket, and I signed up with hope. I was very fortunate to get the opportunity to review the Kailas jacket, and I was overjoyed! Sincere thanks to the store manager for the favor!

As a 'veteran' pseudo-hiker, I have long been familiar with Kailas! Two years ago, my child gave me a Kailas fleece jacket as a birthday gift. Wearing it for morning runs and hikes over the past two years has allowed me to fully appreciate the warmth of this Kailas fleece jacket and made me love the Kailas brand.

I prayed to the store manager to receive the Kailas jacket before the trip. Whether it was the manager's 'understanding' or my luck, I really received it the day before departure!

In a hurry, I unpacked the delivery, took detailed photos, and started the preliminary work of the review.

1. Brand Introduction

KAILAS (Kailas) is named after Mount Kailash (KAILASH in Hindi). The mountain, with an elevation of 21,837 feet, is located in Tibet, China. It is the main peak of the Kang-ti-ssu mountain range, covered in snow and ice all year round. It is a mountain of spirit and faith, considered the center of the world in the teachings of no fewer than four religions (Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism, and Bon). It is also the source of four major rivers in Asia: the Brahmaputra, Indus, Karnali, and Sutlej.

3. Product Details

1. Unboxing

The received delivery packaging was simple and rough.

2. Weight Comparison

Due to unfamiliarity with the scale bought for the review, I couldn't set it to grams. I compared the weight of my own three-in-one jacket with the Kailas jacket.

3. Appearance

The Kailas three-in-one jacket I received is dark rose (my own color definition). I am 1.58 meters tall and weigh 112 pounds. I ordered an L size, which fits a bit loosely.

The jacket's hood is integrated with the jacket, making it waterproof and lighter. The hood has drawstrings on both sides to adjust its tightness, providing windproof and thermal effects.

The jacket's zipper is from the well-known YKK brand. It has an extended pull tab for easy one-handed operation and is very smooth to pull. Additionally, the zipper is double-headed, allowing it to be pulled from the bottom up when sitting or squatting, preventing tightness and discomfort.

The jacket's outer shell and inner lining are fixed with zippers. There are also straps with plastic snap buttons at the collar and cuffs for additional fixation.

There are hidden zippered pockets on both sides of the jacket, which are waterproof.

The left chest of the jacket has the Kailas 'KAILAS' sun logo and embroidered trademark, which is eye-catching. The left cuff is embroidered with 'FILTERTEC,' Kailas' self-developed waterproof and breathable fabric—FILTERTEC, which prevents liquid water while allowing water vapor and oxygen to pass through, making the jacket windproof, waterproof, and breathable.

The small parts on the Kailas jacket are all exquisite and detailed.

The Velcro on the jacket cuffs is very soft and flat, not scratching the skin or snagging other clothes. No comparison, no harm!

The jacket's inner lining is made of fleece material, which is light, thin, and soft. The left chest also has the Kailas sun logo embroidered. There are zippered pockets on both sides, large enough to hold any size phone. The collar is made of fine fleece material, which is soft and comfortable against the face, without any friction. The inner lining can be worn with the outer shell or alone, providing good breathability and warmth.

4. Wearing Experience

The first stop of this trip was Siguniang Mountain in Sichuan. Upon arriving in Chengdu, I, coming from the icy Northeast, experienced the terrible 'damp cold'! The gloomy, humid weather with only a few degrees above zero made me, wearing a thin acrylic cotton jacket and two pairs of pants, feel 'frozen'! Wandering around Wide and Narrow Alleys, Jinli, and Chunxi Road all day, I felt cold all over. Back at the hotel, even with the air conditioning on, the building's poor insulation compared to the Northeast made the room feel uncomfortably cold, forcing me to hide under the covers.

Fearing the cold, I wore the Kailas jacket with thermal underwear on the first day at Siguniang Mountain. The high-altitude climate of the 6250-meter-high main peak, with its four seasons in a day and no heating facilities, was a great test for my body and the jacket's windproof and thermal performance!

In Shuangqiao Valley, we took a car directly to the highest scenic spot at over 4,000 meters. Although the temperature was not extremely low, the wind on the high-altitude mountain was very strong. The surrounding mountains blocked the sun, and by 4 PM, the sun had disappeared. By the end of the day, those wearing long down jackets were shivering, while I, in the Kailas jacket, felt no cold at all, staying warm inside.

The next day in Changping Valley, we did long-distance hiking without climbing. Although the temperature was slightly higher than the first day, it was still cold in the valley surrounded by high mountains. Wearing the Kailas jacket, I didn't feel cold and even got 'hot' after long-distance hiking! While others were still in down jackets, I took off the outer shell and wore only the fleece lining. My companions were surprised and asked if I was cold wearing so little. I showed them the sweat on my forehead and jokingly told them I was wearing a 'fire dragon' shirt.

After experiencing the windproof and thermal effects of the Kailas jacket in Siguniang Mountain and Hailuogou, I was very satisfied. I thought I wouldn't have a chance to test its waterproof effect in Yunnan due to the sunny weather. 'Fortunate people need not worry'! During a one-day tour of the Three Pagodas of Chongsheng Temple in Dali, I got the perfect opportunity!

Coming down from Cangshan Mountain, the sky turned gloomy and it started to drizzle, followed by showers. I deliberately didn't wear a raincoat or avoid the rain, focusing on observing the jacket. In the drizzle, raindrops gathered into small beads on the jacket, which fell off when I shook it, leaving no water stains. In the heavier rain, the water beads increased but didn't soak through, remaining on the surface. After the rain stopped, I didn't shake off the water, letting it stay. On the way back to the hotel, I observed that the water had disappeared, leaving no water marks, and the inside remained dry.

I secretly took photos of others wearing different brand jackets in the rain and compared them with my Kailas jacket.

After more than half a month of testing, I highly praise the Kailas jacket's windproof, cold-resistant, thermal, and waterproof functions! It's suitable not only for winter running, hiking, trail running, and mountaineering but also looks great for casual outings! It's worth having! If you are an outdoor sports enthusiast, you should get one. With the Kailas jacket, you can face rain, snow, wind, and frost without fear.
