KAILAS lightweight thermal fleece, a trustworthy product made in China.

I got to know the brand KAILAS through Codoon. Codoon is China's first GPS sports social mobile app, which tracks exercise routes, meets sports friends, discovers sports news and fun facts, and even allows for live video streaming to share exercise experiences and improve athletic abilities with users worldwide.

Since I started using Codoon in 2014, this mobile app has not only encouraged me to keep exercising and stay fit, but its gear review activities have also introduced me to and allowed me to experience various sports equipment. This time, I was fortunate enough to get another opportunity to review sports gear, specifically the KAILAS lightweight thermal fleece jacket.

I knew very little about KAILAS before, so after submitting my review application, I specifically searched for information about KAILAS.

The brand name KAILAS comes from a sacred mountain named Mount Kailash, which stands at an elevation of 21,837 feet in Tibet, China. It is the main peak of the Gangdise Mountain Range, covered in snow year-round, and is considered a spiritual and religious mountain. From what I understand, although the KAILAS brand originated from an Australian youth named Brian Collins, it is genuinely made in China! Its production and sales headquarters are located in Guangzhou.

As a well-known outdoor brand, KAILAS has adopted a pragmatic and rigorous attitude since entering the Chinese market, thoroughly studying the development patterns and characteristics of the Chinese outdoor market. Recognizing the importance and uniqueness of the Chinese market, KAILAS has formulated a grand, long-term development plan for China, increasing investment in the market and carefully managing the brand's development pace. Rather than solely pursuing market share, KAILAS focuses on strengthening its foundation, enhancing product reputation, and laying a solid foundation for future growth. Now, let's personally experience what makes the KAILAS lightweight thermal fleece jacket so unique!

1. Unboxing

From receiving the review notification to getting the sample, I waited quite a long time, but when I finally got the gear, I felt the wait was worth it.

After removing the courier packaging, I found a seemingly ordinary cotton jacket, slightly wrinkled and very light in hand, which made me doubt its warmth. On the afternoon I received the product, I didn't immediately wear it outside, fearing it wouldn't withstand the cold, but my doubts were entirely unnecessary.

The back of the packaging bag features a declaration of KAILAS's lightweight revolution manufacturing concept, 'Light to Every Gram,' which is not just a slogan but a testament to KAILAS's determination to perfect the lightweight revolution.

There are five tags in total, with complete product information (name, model, color, origin, size, material, components, and price). The jacket I reviewed is in 'Mountain Dove' color (19143), which I think looks like military green. The size is 185/104B, XXL, which is slightly large for my height of 182 cm and weight of 77 kg, but I prefer a loose fit, so it's still suitable.

The zipper of the KAILAS thermal jacket uses the internationally renowned YKK zipper, known for its precise craftsmanship, materials, and high price, resulting in excellent quality. The zipper pull has a cord with a hard plastic anti-slip head, making it easy to grip even with thick gloves.

The inside of the zipper has windproof and waterproof strips to effectively prevent wind and rain from entering. The zipper also has protective design at the collar to avoid scratching the neck.

The inside of the collar is made of fine fleece material, which feels very warm and comfortable against the neck.

The jacket has large, deep pockets on both sides, with zippers at the openings. The pockets are spacious enough to hold a smartphone, keys, wallet, and small items.

One of the most commendable design details is the thoughtful use of materials for the pocket lining. The outer side of the pocket lining is fleece, while the side against the body is smooth fabric. When you put your hands in the pockets, the back of your hand feels warm against the fleece, while the palm feels smooth against the fabric, which is beneficial because palms tend to sweat during exercise. This detail shows KAILAS's meticulous care for user experience.

The two white lines in the picture are 'anti-static metal,' which helps prevent static electricity in daily life and exercise, especially in winter when static is more likely. So, you don't need to worry about static when wearing this product.

Additionally, the cuffs and hem of the jacket have windproof elastic closures and drawstrings, effectively preventing wind and keeping you warm.

According to the introduction, the fabric of this lightweight product is PRIMALOFT, which has excellent compressibility, is very lightweight, and has good insulation. It also has strong anti-stain properties and provides good water resistance when worn. PRIMALOFT insulation has a crucial characteristic: it retains warmth even when wet and can be repeatedly washed. This makes it very suitable for outdoor activities and long-distance self-driving trips.

2. Experience

First, the most noticeable feeling is its lightness; it is incredibly light, definitely not the typical feel of winter clothing.

Secondly, it is genuinely warm. At least in the current -2°C mornings, wearing a sweatshirt and the KAILAS jacket, I don't feel cold at all. After running two kilometers, I am already sweating.

In winter, with cold winds and smog enveloping the city, I put on my hat, mask, and replaced my bulky down jacket, heavy windbreaker, and thick sweatshirt with the 320-gram KAILAS lightweight thermal fleece jacket for running. I immediately felt light and free, as if it were spring or autumn, wearing just a single layer, without any bulkiness. Lightweight and warm clothing is essential for winter outdoor sports, allowing athletes to experience the best state of exercise, maximizing their potential without any interference or restriction from their attire.

I am a solitary runner, going out around five in the morning when it's dark, so I don't have any photos of me running to share.

This review report took a while to complete, partly due to various commitments, but mainly because I was waiting for rain to test the jacket's waterproof capability. However, the deadline arrived, and it still hadn't rained, so I had to temporarily forgo the rain test.

3. Summary:

Advantages: Lightweight, warm, windproof, and waterproof (waterproof yet to be tested). Highly recommended for Codoon users like me who persist in morning runs during winter.

Disadvantages: None that I can think of. If I had to nitpick, I would say the fabric colors could be more varied, and the price could be more affordable.
